2026.06.01Foundlings Phase 1 Release
Phase 1 - First Release
Hello!
Foundlings started as a personal challenge: build a game from the ground up while putting my software engineering experience to the test.
A lot of the work went into the technology behind it - custom systems, a compiled scripting language and its runtime, and the various tools and infrastructure needed to make the game work. Altogether, I spent roughly 300–600 hours on the project, mostly learning, experimenting, and having fun along the way.
Eventually, I realized I could keep polishing it forever without ever actually releasing it.
So here we are. This is the first release.
What is it?
Foundlings is a short, linear Visual Novel with no choices and a single ending.
Story
Set in late 19th-century London, Foundlings is a coming-of-age story about love, brotherhood, and hope for a brighter tomorrow.
You play as Arthur, who loses his parents and is sent to an orphanage. There, he meets Henry - and the two soon become inseparable.
What is Phase 1?
This is a free Phase 1 release.
It contains the complete story currently planned for this stage, accompanied by placeholder visuals. The story may still evolve based on feedback and reception.
Why release it?
The technology works. Now we want to find out whether the game itself works.
We're looking for honest feedback on the story, characters, atmosphere, and whether Foundlings is something worth continuing.
What comes next?
If there is enough interest, development will continue chapter by chapter.
And if, after the final chapter, people genuinely want to see more, that could lead to Phase 2 - a full production with professional artwork, localization, and further development.
Nothing is promised yet. For now, this release is about seeing where Foundlings can go.
We'd love to hear your thoughts, reactions, feedback, and suggestions.
